Dear Parent(s), Greetings! It’s been a wonderful beginning to the new session! Time has just flown by with our little ones...... Let's take a sneak peek into the days gone by in the month of April and May........ Theme – Me/Myself “Love Yourself first and everything else falls into place” Children got to know about themselves they learned that each one of them are unique and different. All of them were given the confidence that they are ‘special’. Children learnt to introduce themselves. They got acquainted to the names of their body parts and how are they important. This was followed by explaining about the importance of personal hygiene habits like- wash hands, take a bath, comb hair, brush your teeth etc. They were introduced to the concept of family, and how every child and every family is unique. Children happily shared about their friends and educators discussed the importance of good friends with them. The educator discussed the likes and dislikes of children by asking them about their favourite fruits, toys, and clothes, etc. She also shared her likes and dislikes with them. The recapitulation of the same was done through a story. Reinforcement of the magic words, 'Please' and ‘Thank you' and introduction of the new magic words, 'Sorry' and 'Excuse me' was done in the class through a video. SDG for the Month: Good Health and Wellbeing Children were sensitized to the importance of keeping themselves neat and tidy, proper steps of brushing their teeth and washing their hands after and before meals were demonstrated to our little ones. They were encouraged to keep themselves clean and eat healthy food through discussions and rhymes during quality circle time. Verbal Linguistic: Listening being the foremost skill to attain learning was well reinforced time and again through games, rhymes and discussions. Their imagination and attention span expanded through stories. It laid the foundation for children to listen, comprehend and then speak. They were introduced to the phonic sounds of letters from ‘Aa to Dd’ through 'Phonic songs'. An array of concrete objects were shown to children where they felt the objects and repeated the words along with the educator. Logical / Mathematical Intelligence Observation and retention are two of the important skills for children. Educators dressed up in ‘red’ and ‘yellow’ clothes on respective days to comprehend these two colours. They were exposed to a plethora of learning equipment and activities to activate visual thinking skills. After the concrete experiences, they used their retention power to exhibit the understanding related to the concept of numbers till 2, ‘Concept of big & small’ and the shape ‘Circle’. Children enjoyed making standing line and sleeping line using ice cream stick with finger printing. Visual-Spatial "Life will not present itself as A, B, C, or D questions and answers. Our kids will need to know how to think" and "Thinkers need to see to think". It is very important to give the visual-spatial skills their due importance so our educators had planned interesting age-appropriate activities for them to enjoy. These activities were beautifully integrated with logical mathematics for eg: -making of flowers with thumb and fingerprinting involved quantification of numbers 1 and 2. Our little ones were amazed by the fact at their little thumb and fingers are capable. The best example of an integrated approach was evident in the activities like an apple with a handprint, potato printing of faces to reinforce the concept of the circle, and emotions. Naturalistic Intelligence: “A learning environment is simply one which makes learning possible”. Thus, we sharpened the naturalistic intelligence of our little ones by taking imprints of natural substances on play dough. The activity aroused their curiosity and helped them to observe natural things in terms of shape, colour and texture. The learners also understood more about their sense of touch and smell when they explored different items like cardamon, cinnamon, orange juice, lemon, sugar, salt, bay leaf, pieces of cloth of different texture, etc. Children practiced and inculcated personal hygiene habit of washing their hands through the ‘black pepper liquid soap’ experiment. Our naturalists went for a nature walk to see, feel and touch flowers and leaves & relate to their natural surroundings. Children visited the vegetable garden and were thrilled to spot the ladyfinger, mint. Musical Intelligence“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”. Indian Music Indian music sessions helped in inculcating sense of structure and rhythm in the children. They practiced songs like:
Western Music “Where words leave off, Music begins” Children practiced singing songs such as, “God’s Love it’s so wonderful” and “Praise Him”. Dance “Dance is a language of emotions” Dance resulted into a source of fun exercise for our young dancers. They increased muscular strength and endurance while dancing on the songs, “I am so happy” and “Baby Shark”. Bodily-kinesthetic Running and jumping by our little ones using their tiny toes is also a great achievement. Running to short distances with precision and speed was demonstrated and encouraged well by our physical education educators. They used movement to help children acquire knowledge about themselves, their physical and mental abilities and conducted a number of activities wherein the children practiced few manipulative skills activities such as ball throwing, ball lifting, ball bouncing and crossing the hurdles. Water-Play Water adds resistance, so water play in the ‘splash pool’ worked as strength training for children. It takes more muscle strength to move arms and legs through water then it does through air. Children strengthened muscle coordination and gained confidence to enter into a water body. They were apprised of the essentials related to hygiene and safety. Imaginarium Children visited the Imaginarium for expanding their horizons of imagination in different corners like supermarket, Lego table, block corner, grooming station. They also acquired hand grip and enjoyed playing games. Montessori Children practiced essential life skills of spooning and dry pouring through Montessori apparatus. It also aided in the development of fine muscles by focussing on the correct grip to hold a spoon and a jar and exploring the five senses -taste, feel, see, listen and touch using related objects such as cardamon, cinnamon, orange juice, salt and sugar. Clay Modeling Children felt motivated to explore the inviting soft and responsive sensory qualities of clay. Many new neurons and synapses in the brain were generated when children made one of the pre-writing patterns such as ‘standing line’. They also made an effort to create an apple, a ball and a duck. Birthday celebrations Celebration sparks joy and joy facilitates learning. We celebrated the birthdays of children born in the month of April along with a show and tell activity on the theme, ‘Personal hygiene’. They dressed as per the theme and shared their thoughts with their friends while waiting for their turn. Children acquired the etiquettes to behave in a social gathering. Special Days Earth day On the occasion of ‘Earth Day’, educators shared a PPT on the importance of the day. She encouraged children to use the resources wisely and asked them to take care of a few simple things to make the earth a happy planet like switch off the lights when not in use, don’t waste water and food, etc. Later on, children made beautiful impressions on a chart paper by dipping a balloon in blue and green color depicting the Mother Earth. International Dance Day Children enjoyed dancing on a ‘gummy bear’ song, which was followed by a presentation representing different forms of dances across the world. They were told about the reason behind celebrating International Dance Day. Mother’s Day The importance of Mother’s Day cannot be captured in words but can be easily felt in the warm hugs and smiles of our little ones. The educator helped children to create a Mother’s Day card for their mothers as gesture of warmth and gratitude. EYP Assemblies
Our group of cuties have been the keen spectators to the assemblies performed by sections of kindergarten. They gradually learnt the way to adhere to a certain decorum and sit and stand in appropriate ways. Also, they were actively engaged in the action songs performed in the assemblies for ‘Mother’s Day’ and ‘Eid-Ul-Fitr’.
