Children do learn what they live. Then they grow up to live what they've learned ~ Dorothy Law Nolte Transition is one of the most inevitable and natural parts of life. As our youngest lot prepare to move to the next class, it is very important to remind our little ones of their previous knowledge. Here is a brief of the plethora of activities which helped our children recapitulate their learning. Let's take a sneak peek into the marvellous month of March. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence Recapitulation of letters 'Aa' to 'Zz' along with their phonic sounds and related words was done in the class. The children enjoyed singing rhymes like 'Mr. Sun', 'It's raining, it's pouring', 'Itsy Bitsy Spider', 'Old MacDonald had a farm', and 'Wheels of the bus' etc. Our little ones have become confident orators and narrate story with the help of picture books with enthusiasm and confidence. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence The children recapitulated the number concepts - oral counting from 1 to 20, recognition and quantification of numbers 1 to 10. They revisited the various patterns such as loop and spiral, colours and shapes - square, rectangle and triangle. Visual Spatial Intelligence The children developed their aesthetic skills by making a 'Pichkari'. It also helped in developing their fine motor skills and increased their finger dexterity. They enjoyed colouring the worksheet on summer season and were excited to sort the animals according to their habitat. Naturalistic Intelligence The little ones were made aware of the fact that they are growing up and would be promoted to a new class very soon. The educator encouraged the children to express their feelings on the same. Musical Intelligence “He who sings frightens away his ills.” – Miguel De Cervantes Music helps students expand their minds and increase their self-confidence. It serves a greater purpose in our lives than simply providing amusement Indian Music Indian classical music creates a spiritual link and helps the students stay connected with the roots of Indian culture. This month the educator inculcated the following songs and practices:
Western Music Students who have early music training, naturally develop their language skills and reasoning abilities. Since music education stimulates child’s emotional and cognitive abilities, it can allow their brain to think in new and different ways. Children along with the educator melodious songs, ’Sun, Moon, and Stars’ as well as 'Good morning, everybody, how are you' song. Dance “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”- Martha Graham Dance is a rejuvenating physical activity, and kids who take dance lessons regularly see a significant improvement in their overall physical health. Dance lessons can also help children improve their social skills and enable them to communicate better, learn teamwork, develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation. Children had a great time learning the dance steps on the song- “Thank you teachers”. Their exuberant participation during the sessions was noticeable. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Physical activities are crucial for the holistic development of young ones. The sports educator guided the children to perform various exercises such as side twist, front raise, knee up, upper body rotation, and knee balance, jumping jacks, knees up, body coordination and balancing sideways, tag games and kangaroo jumps. These activities not only strengthen children’s bones, muscles, hearts and lungs, but also improve children’s coordination, balance, posture and flexibility. Pottery Pottery nurtures child's creativity, boosts their imagination, imbibes self- confidence, and promotes social skills. It also calms down the hyperactive mind and develops resilience and cooperation. Children sculpted different shapes such as rectangle, square, circle etc as a reinforcement activity. Montessori Our little ones developed motor control, coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of responsibility in a Montessori classroom. Children recapitulate the numbers 1-10 using the Number rods. Storytelling To encourage our young learners, to use their imagination and creativity, storytelling sessions were conducted by the educator. They help in enhancing their social and interpersonal skills. The children were fascinated to listen to the story ‘the truth about the tooth’ in the final week. Drama Drama means telling a story through action and speech and is meant to be acted on a stage. Drama is the expression and exploration of personal, cultural and social world through role and situation that engages and entertains at the same time. In the month of March, children enjoyed delivering a few dialogues with proper voice intonation along with facial expressions. LEAP Learn >Engage >Acquire> Perform Think beyond the magic and go beyond imagination! To unleash the creativity of our children, we conduct LEAP activities each month wherein children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher-order thinking skills and ingenuity to be future-ready. Below is the activity performed by the students this month:
Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show &Tell We celebrated the birthdays of children born in the month of March on 17th March, 2023. The topic was ‘My favourite theme/ activity’. Children spoke about the basic etiquettes while attending a birthday party. They were encouraged to speak a few lines on the theme through the ‘Show and Tell’ activity. They dressed along with the coordinated props and shared their best memories with their friends and teachers. Events and Celebrations Oorja “It’s not the will to win those matters--everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters more.” – Paul Bryant, former Football Player and Coach Suncity School-37D showcased OORJA through its younger Suncitizens on the sprawling grounds of the school on Saturday, March 04, 2023. The Annual Sports meet was held for the students of Foundation Years (EYP till Grade II). OORJA represented Suncity’s “Integrated Sports Programme” where each child gets exposure to a variety of sports offered by the school. The term OORJA also symbolises the agility, vigour and robustness of Suncitizens as they prepare themselves to be healthy world citizens displaying willingness to participate and sportsmanship. The athletic event commenced with a vibrant Walk by young Suncitizens to the tunes of a sprightly number. The Principal also joyously accompanied the tiny tots reminiscing her own childhood days. The races/ drills concentrated not only on the mobility and alertness but also on developing sensitivity towards the environment. ‘Ring me in”, ‘Crawling Caterpillar,’ are a few examples of the various activities that filled the day. The Grand Finale captivated the hearts of the viewers. The event was a resounding success which left the students, parents and the school community brimming with exhilaration. Excursion to Mowgly’s Farm A trip to animal farm helps to observe and understand the animal behaviour and habitat closely. It provides an opportunity to interact with them and understand them in their natural surroundings. Also, it’s an opportunity for kids to see almost all the domestic or farm animals that they have only read about or drawn in the notebooks. It was an overwhelming experience for them to see all the farm animals straight out of their picture books. The visit allowed them to learn more about the habitat and sounds of various animals. This practical approach to learning helped them to remember and retain the knowledge forever. Our EYP students visited the ‘Mogly’s farm’ as a part of their annual excursion on 10th March 2023. The energy amongst the students was palpable. At the farm, the children enjoyed various activities like milking a cow, petting the animals, feeding the sheep, holding the rabbits and guinea pigs. They were also fascinated by the story session through the miniatures of their favourite story characters. Graduation Day Assembly
It was a heart-warming moment to celebrate Graduation Day and applaud the young enthusiastic learners for their commendable performance in the session 2022-2023. It also marked a new beginning that shall add new dimensions to the journey they continue to the next level of learning in the upcoming academic session. Students of Nursery-A conducted a special assembly for their KG friends. During the event, the children talked about the valuable lessons and positive qualities that their teachers imparted to them over the course of the year. The dance performance by the students was a dazzling highlight as a token of love and gratitude for the educators that left a lasting impression on everyone. Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much ~ Helen Keller We believe that the purpose of education is the integral development of a person which helps them in leading a fuller and better life. Education also contributes to the betterment of a society as a whole. The children of today can make a huge difference in the society tomorrow. Let's take a sneak peek into the fabulous month of February. Theme – Transport and Community helpers Transportation is one of the topics which children learn most naturally. Depending on where they live and how they commute to nearby places, including their school, our little ones got a chance to experience the different types of transportation available. Children discussed about the characteristics of all the modes of transport- land, water and air. Awareness about safety measures which needs to be adopted while travelling, was imparted to children. They were also sensitised towards using the modes of transport judiciously to avoid pollution. The theme for the month of February was ‘Community Helpers’ and the children were sensitised on the importance of community helpers in our lives. Community helpers play a very important role in keeping the community safe and healthy. The educator introduced various community helpers such as doctor, nurse, teacher, policeman, cobbler etc. and discussed the job performed by them to ensure that the community functions more productively. The children were also made aware of the tools and instruments used by various community helpers and they enthusiastically discussed the chores done by various community helpers. Verbal Linguistic Linguistic skills enable the individuals to understand and express themselves, both in written and oral form. Children loved talking about the mode of transport used by them to commute to school, malls, super-markets, friends or relatives’ place. They were elated to share the colours of their cars and incidents related to their parents driving. It was enthralling to see this kind of enthusiasm at such an early age. The children enjoyed reciting rhymes like ‘Wheels of the bus’, ‘Ek Chhoti Kashti’, ‘Airplanes’ 'Wind the bobbin' up, 'Chop chop', and 'Cobbler, cobbler mend my Shoe'. They loved listening to the stories 'Peppa Pig – when I grow up'. The children also learnt the phonic sound and words related to the letters ‘Ww’ ‘Xx’ ‘Yy’ and ‘Zz’ and recapitulated letters from “Aa to Zz” through audio-visuals, stories, real objects and practice sheets. Logical Mathematics Our little ones have become active thinkers and have begun to use visual imagery as part of their thinking. They have begun to relate numbers with the things around them. Children worked with numbers and concept of size while discussing about the number of tyres, windows, doors, lights etc. in relation to the modes of transport. Children were acquainted with the concept of ‘far and near’ through a short story and various objects such as toy vehicles, blocks etc. Children were introduced to the numbers ‘9’ and ‘10’ along with the quantification. The colour 'Black' was introduced through a wide range of concrete objects. The children enjoyed recapitulating numbers from 1 – 10, orally counted from 1 to 20 through a number rhyme. They also practiced tracing the ‘Loop’ pattern using chalks and later using crayons in the logical/mathematical workbook. Naturalistic Children were taken for a walk and benefits of walking for good health were discussed with them. They understood the concept of sink and float through an experiment. Our young learners were sensitised towards the role of community helpers in their lives. They understood the importance of work done by the community helpers and the value of being thankful was imparted to them through a video demonstration. Making a 'Thank You' card was indeed an apt way of expressing gratitude towards the community helpers. Visual Spatial Creativity is expressing one’s own idea, trying new things, and experimenting with changing materials. The children loved making a toy car using tissue roll ( waste material) also enjoyed making traffic light using Nutella and gems. They enjoyed designing a pair of shoes and decorated them creatively. An array of activities like 'Chef craft', and ‘Electrician's Tool Belt’ were designed to give them hands on learning of the roles played by various community helpers. Montessori The Montessori classroom is a mini-society in which the child can develop all characteristics. Our little ones explored cognitive domain by practicing ‘Spindle Box’ and a lot of practical life exercises through ‘Spooning’, ‘Wet and dry pouring’, ‘Folding a handkerchief’. Imaginarium Children looked forward to be amidst the learning centres in the Imaginarium. These diverse learning centres allowed them to indulge in open-ended activities and hands-on material to aid the learning in the form of play which involved the whole self. The attraction of the month was the ‘Transport Play Corner’ wherein children played with an array of modes of land transport. They were also shown and explained the road symbols and the significance of following them. Clay Modeling Children felt motivated to explore the soft and responsive sensory qualities of clay. Many new neurons and synapses in the brain were generated when children made pre-writing patterns-loop, egg -yolk, and boat. Some of the shapes made by them were given a final shape as a fly by the educator. Musical Intelligence In the words of Robert G. Ingersoll, “Music expresses feelings and thoughts, without language; it was below and before speech, and it is above and beyond all words.” Indian Music Children, along with the educator, participated in ‘Vocal warm-up exercises. They enjoyed singing the following songs:
Western Music
Dance “Dance is a language of the emotions.” – Priyanshu Singh Dancing is the best exercise for our body and it keeps our mind healthy and fit. It also helps children develop emotionally, socially and cognitively. Children had fun learning wonderful steps on the song, “माँ तुझे सलाम”, which strengthened their gross motor skills and confidence. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence “Your productivity will double with increased physical activity.”- Laila Gifty Akita Physical education helps in developing the students’ competence and confidence. The importance of physical education programmes is to help students enhance a wide range of skills as well as give them the ability to use tactics, strategies and more ideas to perform. This month the children had a gala time participating in the following activities: ‘Oorja’ event practice
Storytelling Stories increase children's willingness to communicate and enable them to share their thoughts and feelings. Stories reveal universal truths about the world. Stories and story related activities conducted this month, had the sole objective of encouraging ‘Learning through the Play Way method’. The story narrated in this month is– 1.‘पकड़ो पकड़ो उस बिल्ले को’ followed by an activity- Children enjoyed colouring in the figure of ‘Cat’. Drama Drama and skits are already part of children’s lives even before they start their school in the form of pretend plays at home such as dressing up and acting like doctors, nurses, pilots, engineers, dentists and more. This allows them to create their own identity by creating situations that have many similarities in the real world. Keeping this in mind, the educator performed various activities in this month. Children enjoyed mirror image, expression and followed by mirror activity. Events and Celebrations Birthday celebration- Show & Tell Birthdays are important because they give everyone a chance to feel special and see how much those around them love them. Keeping up the spirit, the birthday ‘Show and Tell’ activity was celebrated on 28th February, 2022. The theme for the celebration was ‘Community Helpers’. Children reiterated the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. They were encouraged to speak a few lines on the theme. They were excited to present their thoughts along with the props. Science Week write up This Year EYP ‘Science Week’ was observed from 30.1.23 to 3.2.23. We believe that the true essence of learning is when the philosophy seamlessly integrates with the lives of the learner, powering their interpretation of everything that goes around them by constantly relating to their environment. This initiative was undertaken to make the students understand that science is fun. Students conducted various activities during the entire week under the guidance of class educators, Keeping in sync with the concepts covered in class, a number of scientific experiments were organised. Students of kindergarten learnt about the Earth’s rotation using a globe and flashlight as the Sun, resulting in day and night. They performed another fun experiment of mixing primary colours to get a new colour in integration with the concept of diagraphs. Our Nursery children did an amazing experiment to understand how arctic animals remain warm in the icy cold water. They were also thrilled to perform a balloon rocket experiment. Students of pre-nursery explored the magnets through ‘What’s magnetic ‘activity. Parent assembly: KG B "Compassion is the greatest form of love, humans have to offer". Standing true to these words, our little wonders learnt the true meaning of compassion by living it. The students of KG B participated in the parent assembly based on the theme Compassion. The assembly commenced with a powerful heart opening Yogasana for compassion, followed by a small skit based on the story "Under the Lemon moon". Little suncitizens confidently ruled the stage with their splendid theatrical skills. The drama was then concluded by a dance sequence on the song "Compassion, a recipe for life" with a message to brew love and care in your heart for those around you. In the end, the audience was/were graced by the words of wisdom shared by our Honourable Principal ma'am Ms. Guneet Ohri. LEAP: Think beyond the magic and get beyond the imagination!
