"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about" ~ Angela Schwindt Thus, our activities are designed to make learning fun and help in the holistic development of children. Let's take a sneak peek into the awesome month of November. Theme – Aquatic Animals The month of November took the children into the enchanting world of aquatic animals. They were introduced to the captivating world of fish, crabs, jellyfish, sharks, sea horses, dolphins etc. The features of these animals were discussed during ‘Quality Circle Time’. The children enjoyed making various animal moves like 'wobble like a jellyfish', 'move like a seahorse', 'chomp-chomp like a shark' etc. Various theme related rhymes like 'Sticky Sticky Starfish', 'Down in the Deep Blue Sea', 'Animals in the Ocean', and '12345 once I caught a fish alive' were recited by the children along with the educator. The 'Show and Tell' activity provided an opportunity to the children to enhance their public speaking skills. They showed props related to the theme and spoke a few lines on it. Verbal Linguistic Language development lays the foundation for reading and writing skills in children as they progress through school and helps them to communicate, express and understand. The children have started talking in sentences, expressing their thoughts and ideas and narrating stories with confidence. The children practiced the phonic sounds and words related to letters 'Pp, Qq, Rr' and ‘Ss’. They can now recognize letters 'Aa' to 'Ss' and tell their phonic sounds. They also enjoyed listening to theme related stories like 'Nemo the fish’ and 'The Tortoise and the Rabbit'. Their vocabulary was enriched through the audiovisuals, stories, real objects and practice sheets. Logical/Mathematical Everything can have a connection to ‘Math’, and math connects to everything. Jumping, clapping, and climbing stairs, for example, are all ways to practice counting. When children recognize, form, play with, and combine shapes, they are not only learning about ‘Geometry’, but also might be experimenting with visual art, architecture, and science. When children followed a story, or learnt about movement of aquatic animals etc. they created visual imagery of the scenes and characters, using such phrases as ‘seahorse either moves in upward direction or sideways’. They also applied logical - mathematical intelligence to solve problems in terms of matching, sorting the things, recognizing the shape ‘heart’. Also, identification of number ‘7’ along with quantification was introduced. They experienced sensorial learning through the concept of ‘rough and smooth’. The children were introduced to the colour green and enthusiastically pointed out at green-coloured objects in their surroundings. Naturalistic It is imperative that children learn the importance of taking care of our planet today as they are going to inherit it tomorrow. Our activities for the month of November were designed keeping this very goal in mind. The children 'created' their own ocean and then saw the effects of pollution, oil spills and disposing garbage in it. The importance of keeping our water bodies clean was discussed in the class and the children had valuable inputs to share on the same. The children also enjoyed 'making their own beach' in a plastic container with the use of props like sand, marbles, aquatic animal toys etc. ‘What goes in our tummy can be grown in the vegetable garden’. This was well experienced by our little explorers. They were thrilled to see winter vegetables such as spinach, fenugreek, peas, cauliflower and broccoli. Children also acquired life skills of keeping their belongings at an appropriate place. Visual-Spatial Our young artists attempted a variety of activities to boost their imagination. Indeed, we could see them inventing ways and thinking differently while experimenting with colours. ● The little ones were delighted to do pom pom printing in letter P. ● Integrating the monthly theme of aquatic animals with Visual-Spatial, children created a jelly fish, crab and turtle along with the educator. Musical Intelligence Music stimulates the brain in a very powerful way because of our emotional connection with it. Music can create joy and make the ambience blissful and peaceful. It can also improve long term memory and lead to better brain development. Learning music can improve a child’s social and cognitive skills. Indian Music (Sangeet for all) Indian classical music inculcates a sense of structure and rhythm in one’s brain. Children welcomed each other with the song ‘आओआओ संगीत बनायें’, later they practiced singing ‘Shake the Shaker’ song wherein they enjoyed shaking the bottles along with singing. They also learnt ‘Ten little vegetables song’. Western Music “Music is to the mind as air is to the body”. - Plato Practice makes us all perfect. Children practiced singing a new song, ‘Rudolph the red nose reindeer’ to the tune of a guitar. Dance Dancing is so much fun for kids. It allows them to stay active in a fun and exciting way. All the while, practicing the ‘Nanak Aaya’ and preparing for ‘Jingle bell’, our children developed important social and emotional skills. They acquired good body posture and increased balance and coordination. Pottery Children broadened their repertoire of actions: squeezing, stretching, crushing, hitting, shredding, flattening, rolling etc. to make an octopus, starfish (aquatic animals), ring using clay. They also made certain things out of their imagination and choice such as a snake, ball, lollipop etc. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence During early childhood, movement is an essential activity for all children, as it is the vehicle to obtain experiences. It helps to enhance their gross motor, fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and much more. So, our little learners along with our educator acquired the fitness skills.
Storytelling Storytelling helps improve children’s language skills, instills a love for reading, and stirs their imagination. Taking this tradition forward, a story titled ‘A baby hornbill learns to fly’ was narrated in the first week to enhance their knowledge about various species of birds (characteristics, features, behavior, appearance etc.) followed by the drawing of hornbill with few easy steps in the second week. The story of ‘The Giving Tree’ was taken in the third week to ignite the feeling of kindness and gratitude amongst children. Drama Using drama in the initial years of education is the most important way of expressing the person’s feeling in a healthy manner. It helps to improve the child’s imagination, enables the child to think and act independently and improves the child’s social awareness. The stories, ‘Hare and the tortoise’ and ‘The Golden Fish’ were narrated with appropriate expressions and the children found them really amusing and loved copying the expressions. Events and Celebrations EYP - Children’s Day celebration -2022 Children’s Day is celebrated in remembrance of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, popularly known as Pandit Nehru, who was born on 14th of November in the year 1889. Suncity School-37 D organized an amazing “Science Magic Show” for the young Suncitizens. The magician performed several bewildering tricks that left our little Suncitizens astonished and awestruck. Not only a magic show, but our little ones also enjoyed a movie time with their friends while snacking on delicious popcorns and chocolates. Our children had a memorable experience as they enjoyed the wonderful events and went back home happy and overjoyed. Birthday celebration- Show & tell Birthdays are important because they give everyone a day to feel special and see how much those around them love them. They also get excited to celebrate their special day with friends and teachers virtually. Children reiterated the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. Keeping up the spirit, they were encouraged to speak a few lines through ‘Show and Tell’. The theme for the celebration was ‘Aquatic Animals’. They were excited to speak a few lines on the topic and exhibit their props. Math Week "There should be no such thing as boring mathematics" In our endeavour to make ‘Math’ fun and interesting for our young learners, ‘Math Week’ was organized from the 21st to 26th of November. The children enjoyed recapitulating pre number concept such as ‘Rough and Smooth’, ‘Quantification and Recognition of Numbers (1-7)’, ‘Shapes and Colours’ in a play way method. The activities were thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Gurupurab Guru Nanak Dev ji was the first of the ten Sikh gurus and the founder of Sikhism. His birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘Gurpurab’ across the globe. Guru Nanak travelled widely to spread the message of oneness and compassion. This year Guru Nanak Jayanti was celebrated on the 8 th of November ’22. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the students of Pre-Nursery – A presented a special assembly on 7 th November ’22. The students came dressed in traditional attire and the assembly commenced with a prayer followed by a demonstration of the customary ‘Prabhat Pheri’. Students shared useful information relating to Guru Nanak Dev ji. The tiny tots also presented a dance performance. Finally, the ‘Ek Onkar’ prayer was chanted by the students.
