Dear Parent(s), Greetings! It’s been a wonderful beginning to the new session! Time has just flown by with our little ones...... We, at Suncity believe that the purpose of education is the integral development of a person which helps him/her in leading a fuller and better life. Education also contributes to the betterment of the society as a whole. Let's take a sneak peek into the days gone by in the months of April and May. Theme – Me/Myself Children learned to introduce themselves and greet others. They were introduced to the different areas of the school and the norms to be followed through the school tour. The educator discussed the likes and dislikes of the children by asking them about their favourite fruits, toys, and clothes, etc. She also shared her likes and dislikes. Educators discussed the importance of good friends with them. They also learned about the names of their different body parts. The children were also introduced to the concept of family, and how every child and every family is unique. The educators discussed the importance of good friends with them. SDG for the Month: Good Health and Wellbeing Children were sensitized about the importance of keeping themselves neat and tidy, proper steps of brushing their teeth and washing their hands after and before meals. They were encouraged to eat healthy food through discussions and rhymes during quality circle time. Naturalistic Intelligence: “The Mud will wash off but the memories will last a lifetime” Children learnt about the importance of friends by shaking hands and hugging each other and how to use their golden arms and hands to hug and shake rather than hitting, pushing and pulling etc. Introduction of the new magic words'Please' ,‘Thank you' , ‘Sorry’, and ‘ Excuse Me’ was done in the class through a video. They understood the significance of washing their hands through pepper soap experiment. We sharpened the naturalistic intelligence of our little ones by taking imprints of natural substances on the play dough. The activity aroused their curiosity and helped them to observe natural things in terms of shape, colour and texture. The learners also understood more about their sense of touch and smell when they explored different items like cardamon, cinnamon, orange juice, lemon, sugar, salt, bay leaf, pieces of cloth of different texture, etc. Verbal Linguistic: Listening being the foremost skill to attain learning was well reinforced time and again through games, rhymes and discussions. Their imagination and attention span expanded through stories. It laid the foundation for children to listen, comprehend and then speak. They were introduced to the phonic sounds of letters from ‘Aa and Dd’ through 'Phonic songs'. An array of concrete objects was shown to children where they felt the objects and repeated the words along with the educator. Logical/Mathematical Intelligence Observation skill and the retention ability are important for children. Educators dressed up in ‘red’ and ‘yellow’ clothes on the respective days to make the children acquainted with the two colours. They were exposed to a plethora of learning equipment and activities to activate visual thinking skills. After the concrete experiences, they used their retention power to exhibit the understanding related to the concept of numbers ‘1 and 2’, ‘Big and Small ‘and the shape ‘Circle’. Children enjoyed making standing line and sleeping line using ice cream stick with finger printing. Visual-Spatial Visual spatial intelligence is the capacity to imagine or visualize in one’s mind the positions of objects, their shapes, their spatial relations to one another and the movement they make to form new spatial relations. The children enjoyed various fun and interesting activities like 'Welcome card', 'Earth Day craft', ‘Tear and pasting’ activity and ‘Colouring worksheet’ on the pre-number concept-Big and small. It was a delight to see our children's faces light up on creating beautiful things on their own. The activities were beautifully integrated with logical mathematics and verbal linguistic for eg: -making of flowers with thumb and fingerprinting involved quantification of numbers 1 and 2. Our little ones were amazed to see the drawings made by them using their little thumbs and fingers. Musical Intelligence “He who sings frightens away his ills.” – Miguel De Cervantes Music helps students expand their minds and increase their self-confidence. It serves a greater purpose in our lives than simply providing amusement. Great scientists like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Einstein were also fond of music. By combining teaching and music, educators can help students increase their memory, concentration and academic performance. Indian Music Indian classical music creates a spiritual link and helps the students stay connected with the roots of Indian culture. It broadens communication skills and helps the students depict their emotions. ‘Sangeet for All’ is the first Indian music curriculum with a carefully researched pedagogy, methodology, and resources that provides the young children with a solid foundation in music. This month the educator inculcated the following songs and practices:
Children were completely captivated by the rhythm of music as they learnt a new way of expressing themselves through music. Western Music Children along with the educator merrily sang the peppiest and much-loved songs- ‘If you are happy and you know it’, ‘Good morning, everyone’ and ‘I love My Mummy’. Bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence “Your productivity will double with increased physical activity.”- Laila Gifty Akita Physical education helps in developing the students’ competence and confidence. The importance of physical education programmes is to help students enhance a wide range of skills as well as give them the ability to use tactics, strategies and more ideas to perform. This month the children enhanced their locomotive skills by – 1.Picking up the balls and placing on the marker. 2.Ball handling exercises-Throwing and kicking the ball. 3.Stretching exercises. 4. Yoga Asanas Interpersonal Intelligence Birthday celebration- Show & Tell Birthdays are important because they give everyone a chance to feel special and see how much those around them love them. Keeping up the spirit, the birthday ‘Show and Tell’ activity was celebrated on 28th April and 19th May, 2023. The theme for the celebration was ‘Me and Myself’ and ‘My favourite family’ . Children reiterated the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. They were encouraged to speak a few lines on the theme. They were excited to present their thoughts along with the props. Story Telling Suncity believes in the theory of multiple intelligences because it instills types of mental strengths and abilities among children. One of the various ways to enhance multiple intelligence in children is storytelling. It not only stimulates curiosity but also helps children know sounds, words, language, and develop literacy skills, especially in the early years The children listened to the story of ‘The boy who drew cats’ followed by a cat-making activity using number 2 in the third week of April. In the last week, they listened to the story of ‘Cat’s egg’ followed by drawing and decorating an egg in during the next month. The following week they listened to the story of ‘क्यों’ and answered the subsequent questions put up by the educator. Montessori The Montessori classroom is a mini-society in which the child can develop all characteristics. Children practiced essential life skills of spooning through Montessori apparatus. It also aided in the development of fine muscles by focussing on the correct grip to hold a spoon and exploring the five senses -taste, feel, see, listen and touch using related objects such as cardamon, cinnamon, orange juice, salt and sugar. Our little ones identified the red and yellow colour through the colour tablet. Drama Drama and skits are already part of children’s lives even before they start their school in the form of fictional plays at home. This allows them to create their own identity by creating situations that have many similarities in the real world. Keeping this in mind, the educator performed various activities in this month. Children enjoyed enacting different expression and practicing voice intonation such as –
Dance “Dance is a language of emotions” Dance resulted into a fun source of exercise for our young dancers. They increased muscular strength and endurance while dancing on the songs- “Every Move I Make”. Pottery Children felt motivated to explore the inviting soft and responsive sensory qualities of clay. Many new neurons and synapses in the brain were generated when children made an effort to create an apple, a ball and a dice which was related to letters. Some of the shapes made by them were given a final shape as a fly by the educator. Imaginarium Children looked forward to be amidst the learning centres in the Imaginarium for expanding their horizons of imagination in different corners like Supermarket, Lego Table, Block Corner, Grooming Station. These diverse learning centres allowed them to indulge in open-ended activities and hands-on material to aid to the learning in the form of play which involved the whole self. Children enjoyed enacting and expressing their feelings in the learning centre. They also identified the different colours by sorting in the sensory table. EYP Play Area “Play is our brain favorite way of learning.” – Diane Ackerman. It is a happy talent to know how to play. Play allows a child to learn the skills of negotiation, problem-solving, sharing, and working within groups. Children practice decision-making skills, move at their own pace, and discover their own interests during play. Unstructured play leads to more physical movement and makes the children healthy. The EYP play area is the fount of such unstructured play. Water-Play Water adds resistance, so water play in the ‘splash pool’ worked as strength training for children. It takes more muscle strength to move arms and legs through water then it does through air. Children strengthened muscle coordination and gained confidence by entering into a water body. They were apprised of the essentials related to hygiene and safety. Events and Celebrations Earth day On the occasion of ‘Earth Day’ educators shared a video on the importance of the day. She encouraged children to use the resources wisely and asked them to take care of few simple things to make the earth a happy planet like switch off the lights when not in use, don’t waste water and food, etc. Later on, children made beautiful impressions on a flower cut out by dipping a balloon in blue and green color depicting the Mother Earth. International Dance Day Children enjoyed dancing on a ‘gummy bear’ song, which was followed by a presentation representing different forms of dances across the world. They were told about the reason behind celebrating International Dance Day. EYP Assemblies Earth Day- KG-A “Earth day should encourage us to reflect on what we are doing to make our planet a more sustainable and livable place”. - Scott Peters Our little nurturers of KG A showcased a wonderful assembly on 'Earth Day'. Mother Day- KG-B All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my mother - Abraham Lincoln. With this beautiful thought, the shining stars of KG B conducted a special assembly on the auspicious occasion of Mother's Day. Manner Development Visit Our little ones had great fun visiting ‘flight of Dreams’ with their friends and educators. It was a memorable excursion for them, where not only they enjoyed tasty food, but also acquired social mannerism and table etiquettes.
