"The beauty of India lies in its diversity and the colourful celebration of its cultures and traditions”. During the entire circle of the year, there are no days as delightful as those of the beautiful month of October. There is something magically introspective and peaceful about the changing of seasons- especially the transition from summer to autumn. Let's take a sneak peek into the joyous month of October. Theme – Festivals October month is loaded with celebrations and it is the time when we say goodbye to harsh summers and welcome breezy winters. A month where festivities and tradition bring smiles to all as we celebrate many national and international festivals like Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Pooja, Dussehra, Diwali, Halloween etc. The 'Show and Tell' activity provided an opportunity to the children to enhance their public speaking skills. They showed props related to the theme ‘Festivals’ and spoke a few lines on it. Verbal Linguistic Language development lays the foundation for reading and writing skills in children as they progress and helps them to communicate, express and understand. The children have now started expressing their thoughts and ideas with confidence. They practiced the phonic sounds and words related to letters 'Nn and Oo'. They can now recognize letters from 'Aa to Oo' and tell their phonic sounds. They also enjoyed listening to theme related stories like 'Neena the nurse and the Noddy', 'Orange Orang-utan'. Their vocabulary has enhanced through audiovisuals, stories, real objects and practice sheets. Logical/Mathematical Logical – Mathematical intelligence helps the children to analyze problems logically, develop critical and creative thinking ability, information processing and concentration. The children learnt oral counting from 1 – 20, recognized number 6 and its quantification. They were introduced to the pattern - wavy lines and 'star' shape with the help of audiovisuals and workbook pages. The children enjoyed tracing wavy lines in the workbooks and making wavy lines on newspapers with the help of paintbrush and paint. The concept of 'heavy and light' was done through an audiovisual and a workbook. Naturalistic Festive season is the most joyous time of the year for everyone. Every festival has its own importance and meaning. It is important to teach children the importance of celebrating festivals. Celebrating festivals with everyone can help kids learn the importance of togetherness. Traditional cuisines enhance the joy of celebrations during the festive time. ● Children were apprised on the benefits of eating healthy food during festivals. The little ones were delighted to make coconut laddu and enjoyed eating it along with friends. ● The educator sensitized the children about the importance of cleanliness. They were encouraged to clean their classrooms as well. Visual-Spatial Our young artists attempted a variety of activities to boost their imagination. We saw them inventing ways and thinking differently while experimenting with colours. ● The little ones were delighted to make a card on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr and Diwali. ● Integrating letters ‘Nn’ and ‘Oo’ with Visual-Spatial, children created a bird nest and an ‘Octopus Craft’ using colouful A4 sheets, crayons along with the educator. Musical Intelligence Indian Music (Sangeet for all) Indian classical music inculcates a sense of structure and rhythm in one’s brain. Children welcomed each other with the song ‘आओ आओ संगीत बनायें’. Later, children practiced singing ‘मन में दीप जलाएं’ song. Western Music “Music is the heart of Life”. - Franz Liszt Practice makes us perfect. Children practiced singing a new song, ‘Nature’ to the tune of guitar. Dance Dancing is an excellent source of entertainment, laughter, and joy. Children strengthened their skills by dancing to the tunes of the song, ‘बन्दे में था दम वन्दे मातरम’ along with the educator. Bodily Kinaesthetic Intelligence Bodily Kinaesthetic skills help to enhance the students’ gross motor skills, fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination and much more. So, our little learners along with the educator learnt some exercises using different props.
Storytelling “Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world”. Storytelling helps improve children’s language skills, instills a love of reading, and stirs their imagination. Story activity was done in the first week of the month which includes drawing various landforms (mountains, plains, river, and forest) and furnishing it with vibrant colors and concrete material (natural and artificial) like mud, bubble wrap, dried grass and cotton to give the taste of sensorial learning to the children. In the next week, the ‘Story of Diwali’ was narrated to the children with face paper bag puppets to explain the purpose and relevance of the festival. In the last week, a Halloween story was taken up as a part of the ongoing theme of the month and also to make the children understand the differences between national and international festivals. Drama- Like all arts, Drama allows students to communicate with and understand others in new ways. Through drama, one acquires the knowledge of the festivals, history, traditions, beliefs and customs of the people. As a part of the theme ‘Celebration’ a story about the most popular and the most talked about festival ‘Deepawali’ was narrated. Interpersonal Intelligence Events and Celebrations Birthday celebration- Show & tell Birthdays are important because they give everyone a day to feel special. The children get excited to celebrate their special day with friends and teachers. Children reiterated upon the basic etiquettes of how to behave at a party. Keeping up the spirit, they were encouraged to speak a few lines through a ‘Show and Tell’ presentation. The theme for the celebration was ‘Festivals’. The students were excited to speak a few lines on the topic and showcase their props. Panchgaon Excursion: School trips leave a great impact on the mind of the students. They allow the children to rely on themselves, take responsibility and enjoy the activities of the trip. Children had great fun visiting ‘Panchgaon Desi’ with their friends and educators. It was a memorable excursion for them, where not only they explored organic farming but also acquired social mannerisms and table etiquette. Magic Show: Hocus Pocus... zip zap zoom! Let's be sweet …. Have a tricky treat! In tune with the spirit of international mindedness, we celebrated and enjoyed “HALLOWEEN” in our own way, on 31st October 2022. One of the educators disguised herself as ‘Witchy Witch’ and attempted a few magic tricks, which enthralled our little ones. The show was exotic and evidently, there was excitement all around. LEAP: Think beyond the magic and get beyond the imagination! To unleash the creativity of our children we conduct LEAP activities each month wherein children perform various brainstorming tasks to enhance their higher-order thinking skills and ingenuity in order to be future-ready. Below is the activity performed by the student this month: Picture Puzzle- Children enhance their visual thinking skills by observing the given puzzle and tried to complete it by using the related cut outs.
