Greetings! “Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning.” ~ William Arthur Ward Children are born with curiosity, and to encourage this curiosity in their learning process, we need to take significant steps to lay the foundation for their fruitful educational journey. Therefore, at Suncity, we believe that it is important to arouse curiosity in our little ones so that the learning never ceases. That is the very reason why our activities are designed to make children eager to know what is coming next. Let's take a sneak peek into the joyous month of July. Theme-Summer Season The school premises echoed with the jolly voices of our little ones as they returned after a long summer break. Summer, the hottest season of the year, proved to be an exciting and entertaining time for our kids as they got a chance to enjoy 'Water Play.' During this season, the children discovered that midday sun rays are scorching hot. Children were briefed about the availability of summer season fruits like mangoes, plums, litchee, muskmelon, watermelon, cherries etc. in abundance. To cope with the heat, they learned the following tips: ·Wear comfortable cotton clothes, sunglasses, and a hat to protect themselves from the heat. · Consume cool foods and drinks to stay refreshed. · Conserve water and electricity to be mindful of resources. · Play an active role in reducing the summer heat by planting more trees in our neighborhoods and watering them regularly. Verbal Linguistic Early language acquisition is a natural instinct for most children, but as adults, our responses to their attempts to communicate can significantly influence their language development, either speeding it up or slowing it down. To ensure positive progress, we engage with them using complete sentences and speak in gentle tones. We actively involve them in various activities during Quality Circle Time, encouraging them to express themselves. During these sessions, the children practiced phonics songs and explored words associated with letters from 'Aa' to 'Gg,' utilizing the methods mentioned above. Additionally, we enriched their language skills by reciting theme-related rhymes such as 'Summertime,' 'Garmi Aayi, ' 'Wind the Bobbin Up,' 'Mr. Sun,' and 'The Little Rain Drop.' These captivating stories were narrated throughout the month. To further enhance their vocabulary, we utilized audiovisual aids, stories, real objects, and practice sheets. All these efforts fostered a comprehensive and enjoyable language learning experience for the children. Logical/Mathematical ‘The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. Mathematics gives us hope, that every problem has a solution.’ Children made an effort to solve problems as they played and interacted with the people and objects around them. They not only acquired knowledge about their body, but also got acquainted with the concepts like tall and short, shapes, numbers, and their quantification up to number 3. Naturalistic Our young caregivers were taught the significance of maintaining a clean environment. They imbibed the responsibility of caring for birds and animals by providing them water during the summer. Additionally, they grasped the value of conserving water through an engaging clay modeling class where they created a waterdrop symbol. Our adventurous learners thoroughly enjoyed taking nature walks, to the vegetable garden during the vibrant summer season. They delighted in observing the fresh summer vegetables, understanding their importance in supporting growth. Taking charge of watering the school garden plants filled them with joy and satisfaction. Musical Intelligence Music is a form of communication that transcends languages. Our children practiced musical stories and voice intonation through English and Hindi songs. This not only expanded their vocabulary but also made them aware of a lot of expressions. Western Music In the month of July, our little ones learnt a new song, ‘We Shall Overcome’ . It takes more muscle strength to move arms and legs through water than it does through air. The children strengthened their muscle coordination and gained confidence to enter a water body. They were apprised of the essentials related to hygiene and safety and discovered the concept of force by playing around pop-up fountains and strengthened the bond with their friends. Imaginarium Children visited the ‘Imaginarium’ for expanding their horizons of imagination in different corners like supermarket, Lego table, block corner etc. They also improved their hand grip and enjoyed playing the game, ‘Sorting of Summer Fruits and Vegetables’.
